Pradhan Mantri Fasal Vima Yojana
Pradhan Mantri Fasal Vima Yojana was launched on 18 February 2016 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to farmers to help them with crop damage due to natural calamities, pests and diseases.

Some of the important benefits of PMFBY are as follows: Farmers are required to pay a premium of 2% for all kharif crops and 1.5% for all sun crops. In case of commercial and horticultural crops, only 5% premium should be paid.

The premium rates for farmers are very low and the remaining amount will be paid by the government to provide full insurance amount to the farmer for crop damage due to natural calamities. There is no upper limit on government subsidies. Despite the balance premium, say 90%, it is borne by the government.
Technology will be used extensively through the scheme. Smartphones will be used to retrieve and upload crop cutting information. This will reduce the delay in payment of farmers' claims. In addition, remote sensing drones and GPS technology will be used to reduce harvesting experiments.
