Due to policies, there is no special control over e-waste in the industry.  Mumbai is the largest e-waste emitting city in the country.  Mumbai alone generates 1.50 lakh metric tons of waste annually.  Delhi ranks second with one lakh metric tonnes.  Chennai ranks third with 80,000 metric tonnes, Kolkata fourth with 4,000 metric tonnes and Ahmedabad fifth with 4,000 metric tonnes.

In India, on an average, a person discharges 1.5 to 6 kg of e-waste annually.  In India, the environment ministry had in 2015 urged e-waste dumping factories to recycle, but to no avail.  In 2011, manufacturers in India were officially given the responsibility of disposing of e-waste.  The company that makes the electronics product also has to manage the e-waste.

India is the only country in South Asia to have a special legal provision on e-waste.  Another concern for India is the deteriorating health of e-waste recycling workers.  According to the United Nations, about 1.5 million people in India work in e-waste recycling.  There is no precautionary measure against their health so people working in e-waste get seriously ill.

There is twice as much risk to the health of e-waste recycling workers as of ordinary cleaners.  E-waste recycling workers suffer from lung, tracheal, gastrointestinal and skin diseases.  Being part of the chemical in e-waste, it is necessary to take special care about it, but such vigilance is not seen in India.  Uneducated or uneducated people deal with e-waste.

These people are not aware of the side effects of e-waste.  Moreover, the United Nations even goes so far as to say that e-waste incineration is a terrible thing in India.  Instead of recycling electronics waste, it is handed over to poor laborers or dumped at dumping sites.
