6 Introduction to Ubundu Linux The key to the success of the Unix system is the proper selection of some key schemes and its effective implementation. A replica of Unix gave a whole new direction to a whole generation of software developers thinking about programming. In this chapter you will learn about the history of Unix, get acquainted with Ubundu Linux and also learn about some of the options available for running Ubunt Linux.
YA - d sasia (Ellstory of LÀnux): The Unix operating system developed at the AT&T Bell Laboratory in 1969 proved to be a milestone in the early development of the operating system. Ken Thombon, Renis Ritchie, Brian Cornish, Dabbas McIbroy and Joe Osana all made significant contributions to this development. Unix has been extremely influential in the development of the operating system and other general programs over the last three decades.
Even today, Unix and other Unix-based operating systems are still dominant in the world. In today's rapidly changing age of information technology, there are very few commuter programs that have retained their basic features for such a long time. Mov General Electric (GE) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) -u Heyəlui Rx (Multics - Multiplexed Information and Computing Service) -14-12 ls Raruer and the ambitious multizar operating system were collaborators in the development of Unix.
Despite the many recent changes that have been made to the scheme, this huge and daunting project has not gone ahead as expected. When AT&T decided to discontinue the plan, Thomson, Ritchie and other programmers decided to create a relatively small operating system to keep Maxi's objectives alive.
As part of the Multix Pose, Na Von created a game called Cess Travel, but using the game on a larger machine proved to be more expensive. He then found a less-used machine in Beth Laboratory and rebuilt the game he could run on that machine. Subsequently, he and other programmers in his group gradually added the objectives they had in mind to be in one operating system, thus creating a simple operating system.
This system was named Unis because it could be used by a single user as opposed to Mactix. As the operating system evolved, and its support for more than one user changed the spelling of its name to Unix. Figure 6.1 shows the two leading creators of the Unix operating system.
